Harbin City
Harbin City, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, with a population of 9.8 million at the end of 2006, is the center of politics, economics, culture, science and technology, and transportation in the northeast of China. The city is located in the belt within 125°42′E to 130°10′E and 44°04′N to 46°40′N and is situated in the northeast of China and in the south of Heilongjiang Province. Beautiful Songhua River winds through the city and elegant Sun Island shines like a pearl on the north bank of the Songhua River. Harbin possesses rich mineral and natural resources, such as coal, gas, copper, zinc, various ores, mineral water, and forestry, which play a crucial role in the economy of Heilongjiang province.
Harbin is also an important industrial base. It is the largest manufacturing base of industrial motors in China. Other major industries are bearing manufacturing, aluminum-magnesium processing, boiler manufacturing, and many other heavy industrial devices and equipment manufacturing. There are about 200,000 skilled workers and technical professionals working in the electric motor and motor related industries in Harbin.
