Linear Motors

What is Linear Motor?

A linear motor is a transmission device that can convert electric energy into linear motion mechanical energy directly without the need of any buffer module.

Linear motors can be designed in different sizes and shapes such as flat, pancake, cylindrical, round, etc. Compared to traditional motors, the advantages of linear motors include:

  • Simplicity, reliability, and low maintenance due to fewer moving parts
  • Precision movement
  • Compact size
  • Quiet motor operation
  • Energy-efficient
  • Easily customizable due to simplicity

The following is a summary of major applications of linear motors.

  • Logistical systems such as linear induction motor elevators, postal service mail-sorting systems, industrial production lines and assembly lines, automated garages, three-dimensional warehouses and so on
  • Industrial equipment such as forging and stamping equipment, the metallurgical industry equipment including metal automatic casting, the electromagnetism stirs, the ferromagnetic separation, the metal stretch as well as the metal working process expulsion system
  • Machine tools such as grinders, saw machines, laser cutters, and plasma cutters, and coordinates measuring machines on machine tool equipment
  • Information technology systems such as computer equipment as well as its input-output devices including CD drives, printers, and scanners
  • Automation systems such as linear motor-driven gates, windows, curtains, beds, cabinets, tables, chairs, and washing machines
  • Transportation system – The most typical representative is the magnetism aerosol train.  It changed the traditional way in which the track vehicles depend on the wheel friction force to move.  It uses the magnetic aerosol chassis and the linear motor technology to drive the train to slide in the track. It is a significant breakthrough in transportation technology.  The only commercial operation magnetism aerosol train in the world is in Shanghai, China
  • Medical devices such as linear motor driven artificial hearts, tactile analogue machines for the blind
  • Other applications such as plane plotting machines, pen-type recording instruments, automatic winding machines, camera electromagnetism shutters, bar code automatic readers, electric toys, electromagnetism-driven ships, and city light-axle trains. Air conditioners and refrigerators use linear motor compressors
