Multi-Culture
Harbin City is the originating place of the two well-known dynasties in Chinese history - Jin and Qing Dynasty. The Jin Dynasty founded its capital city in Harbin in A.D. 1115. Its descendants later became the Qing Dynasty who established its capital in Beijing. From 1896 to 1903, as the construction of the central eastern railway began in China, business and population started to come to Harbin. By the time the central eastern railway was completed, Harbin had been developed into a new modern city, although it was still in its infant stage. At the beginning of the 20th century, Harbin had become an international business city, with more than 160,000 immigrants coming from 33 countries living in the city. A total of sixteen countries established embassies and consulates in Harbin at different times.
Harbin has a collection of beautiful architectures in various styles including eastern temples, western churches as well as building in Gothic, Byzantine, Eclecticism, art nouveau, and post-modern styles, representing the history, the culture, and the people of Harbin. Harbin is a city with cultural diversification, just like its architectures displaying a mixture of eastern and western styles.
